China’s first Type 076 amphibious assault ship, the Sichuan, returned to a shipyard in Shanghai at around 5 p.m. on Sunday after successfully completing its maiden sea trial.
The three-day mission tested the indigenously developed vessel’s propulsion, electrical systems, and other key equipment, all of which met expected standards.
The ship will now undergo follow-up tests in accordance with established plans.

With a full-load displacement of over 40,000 tonnes, the Sichuan features a dual-island superstructure and a full-length flight deck.
Launched in December 2024 with hull number 51, it has progressed steadily, completing mooring tests, equipment installation, and system debugging to meet the technical requirements for sea trials.

As the new-generation amphibious assault ship of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy, the Sichuan is equipped with innovative electromagnetic catapult and arrestor systems, enabling it to carry fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and amphibious equipment.
