Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has weighed in on one of Bollywood’s most debated topics — who among the Khans reigns supreme. In a recent interview, Kashyap shared his take on Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, ranking their popularity and work ethics.
Speaking to film critic Komal Nahta, the Gangs of Wasseypur director made an unapologetically clear statement.
“Shah Rukh Khan is the most popular, then Salman, and then Aamir. Aamir is the most hardworking and shrewd,” Kashyap said, highlighting the distinct qualities that have made each Khan a force in Bollywood.
The director’s candid ranking quickly sparked attention across film circles, with many fans agreeing that Shah Rukh continues to enjoy unmatched global appeal.
Complicated relationship with the Khans
Despite his praise, Anurag Kashyap has yet to collaborate with any of the three Khans in his directorial ventures. Over the years, he has developed a reputation for bold, unconventional storytelling — often distant from mainstream Bollywood productions.
Interestingly, Kashyap once shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance, though it wasn’t a full-fledged collaboration.
On the other hand, his brother Abhinav Kashyap famously worked with Salman Khan on the blockbuster Dabangg (2010). However, the film’s massive success reportedly caused a rift between the brothers, leading to a long-standing fallout.
While none of the Khans have confirmed their next joint venture, they recently teased a potential collaboration during the Joy Forum 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The trio appeared together, hinting that a project featuring all three of Bollywood’s biggest stars could be in the works — though details remain under wraps.
Such a project would mark a historic cinematic moment, reuniting the legendary Khans on screen for the first time since their careers began over three decades ago.
