Renowned Pakistani actor Zahid Ahmed has openly condemned the reality show Lazawal Ishq, claiming that it spreads obscenity and hides a dangerous mindset behind its production.
During his appearance on a podcast, Zahid expressed strong disapproval of the show, which has sparked widespread controversy online. He said he cannot support any concept that promotes vulgarity or challenges Pakistan’s cultural boundaries.
Questions about show’s producers
According to Zahid Ahmed, his objections began the moment the show was announced. He revealed that he had tried to find out who was behind the project but could not identify the production team.
He added that although actress Ayesha Omar is hosting the show, he chose not to question her about it because he does not view Lazawal Ishq positively and does not know her personally.
“Hidden agenda behind the show”
The actor further alleged that the producers deliberately avoided airing the show on television to escape PEMRA’s regulatory authority and instead released it on YouTube.
By featuring Pakistani hosts and contestants, Zahid said, the makers tried to give Lazawal Ishq a “Pakistani identity,” even though its content does not align with the country’s moral values. He argued that the show’s concept was built on a specific agenda that aims to misrepresent Pakistan globally.
Public reaction and controversy
Zahid Ahmed expressed relief that the show has received mostly backlash and criticism. The first episode of Lazawal Ishq premiered on YouTube on September 29, and viewers quickly accused it of promoting indecency.
Actress and host Ayesha Omar defended the show, claiming it is not a dating program. However, after teasers and trailers circulated on social media, users demanded a complete ban.
In response, PEMRA clarified that since the show airs on YouTube, it falls outside its jurisdiction and therefore cannot be banned under current regulations.
