President Xi Jinping’s attendance of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in the Republic of Korea (ROK) and a state visit to the country have charted the course for Asia-Pacific cooperation, and demonstrated China’s responsibility as a major country, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while briefing the press on Xi’s ROK trip.
Noting that Xi attended more than 10 bilateral and multilateral events over the past three days, Wang said the pragmatic and efficient trip has consolidated good-neighborly friendship and achieved a complete success.
He said the international community has spoken highly of the trip, believing that China has injected invaluable stability into a world fraught with uncertainty.
Faced with the countercurrent of protectionism, China promotes common prosperity through inclusiveness, and upholds fairness and justice with a strong sense of responsibility, with its influence and shaping capacity on the international order and Asia-Pacific regional cooperation steadily growing, he said.
Promoting shared future for Asia-Pacific region
Recalling Xi’s two speeches during the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, Wang said Xi urged all parties to share opportunities and achieve win-win results through open development, advocate inclusive economic globalization that benefits all, and commit to building an Asia-Pacific community.
The major proposals put forward by Xi are visionary and resounding, effectively countering anti-globalization rhetoric, Wang said, adding that they have charted a clear course for the Asia-Pacific region to advance together through integrated development, and inspired confidence in upholding multilateralism, free trade and an open world economy.
Xi also announced that China’s Shenzhen will host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November next year, emphasizing that China is ready to take the opportunity of hosting the event to work with all parties to build together an Asia-Pacific community, said the Chinese foreign minister.
International media widely recognize that China, as a key trading partner for many Asia-Pacific economies and a vital hub in regional industrial and supply chains, has consistently advanced regional integration with a spirit of openness and cooperation, Wang noted.
By driving growth through technological innovation and working with all parties to build an open Asia-Pacific economy, China has become a major pillar of APEC cooperation, he said.

Xi-Trump meeting a ‘historic’ moment for ties
The meeting between President Xi and U.S. President Donald Trump in Busan was a historic moment for China-U.S. relations and a landmark event in international relations, said Wang.
Noting that the meeting hit global headlines, Wang said there has been widespread welcome and congratulations on the success of the meeting. “It is generally seen as highly significant, sending positive signals and easing tensions.”
The China-U.S. relationship is expected to be stable and within control in a period to come, he said.
The two sides’ return to dialogue over economic and trade issues has boosted global market confidence, said Wang.
The meeting between the heads of state plays an irreplaceable role in reducing misjudgments and miscalculations and preventing sharp fluctuations in bilateral ties, he said.
A ‘new chapter’ in China-ROK ties
The Chinese foreign minister noted that the trip also marked Xi’s first state visit to the ROK in 11 years, during which he had in-depth exchanges of views with ROK President Lee Jae-myung in a friendly atmosphere.
The two presidents reached a series of important consensuses on cooperation, including the reaffirmation of the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership, said Wang.
Facts have shown that China and the ROK should pursue common development on the basis of mutual respect, and seek win-win cooperation while shelving differences, he said.
This visit also promoted practical cooperation between China and the ROK, said Wang, as both sides agreed to accelerate the second phase negotiations of China-ROK free trade agreement, further enhance multilateral coordination, support multilateralism and safeguard free trade.
During the trip, both sides have deepened mutual understanding, writing a new chapter in China-ROK relations, according to Wang.
Creating prospects for win-win cooperation
During the visit, Xi also elaborated on the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China through various forms, including bilateral talks, meetings, public addresses and written speeches, said Wang.
Xi stressed that the Chinese economy is like a vast ocean and will continue to bring more development opportunities to the global business community, and that investing in China means investing in the future, said Wang.
Xi also met with the leaders of Canada, Thailand and Japan, and had friendly exchanges with representatives from other economies to enhance mutual trust, build consensus and promote cooperation, Wang added.
No matter how the international circumstances change, China will always stand firmly on the right side of history, on the side of common development of the world, and on the side of the progress of human civilization, and will always firmly defend international fairness and justice and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, he added.
