The possibility of an increase in gas prices has emerged across Pakistan, as gas companies have submitted requests for higher rates for the financial year 2025–26.
The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) has applied to raise the price of gas to Rs189 per mmBtu, while Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has sought an increase to Rs125.41 per mmBtu. Hearings for these applications are scheduled for November 7 and November 11 respectively.
Moreover, the SNGPL has proposed an average gas price of Rs1,955.50 per mmBtu, and Sui Southern has requested an average of Rs1,658.56 per mmBtu.
The financial requirements for the current year have been estimated at over Rs 5.295 billion by the SNGPL, with the SSGC projecting needs exceeding Rs2.4 billion. The SNGPL has also cited a shortfall of Rs582 million under the LPG Airmax project subsidy, while Sui Southern has applied for recovery of Rs3.425 billion relating to losses from previous years.
