Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a landmark initiative — the ‘Roshan Maishat Bijli Package’ — to strengthen Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors, providing them with additional electricity at concessional rates for three years.
The announcement came during a meeting with a delegation of industrialists, agricultural experts, and business leaders, where the prime minister highlighted the government’s commitment to economic growth, employment creation, and export enhancement.
Industries, farmers to receive discounted power
Under the new package, industries and farmers will be provided with additional electricity at significantly reduced prices to lower production costs and enhance competitiveness.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that for the next three years, additional electricity will be supplied at Rs22.98 per unit, with the industrial sector receiving power below Rs34 per unit and the agricultural sector below Rs38 per unit.
He clarified that domestic consumers and other sectors will not bear any financial burden of this relief package.
Economic impact and govt vision
Prime Minister Shehbaz described the package as a major step toward reviving Pakistan’s economy by empowering key productive sectors.
He emphasized that the development of industry and agriculture is essential not only for economic stability but also for creating employment opportunities and reducing the national debt burden.
“The journey from economic crisis to stability has been difficult but achievable through unity and cooperation,” the PM said, expressing confidence that Pakistan will soon achieve economic independence through sustained reforms.
Performance of previous energy packages
Reflecting on last year’s success, PM Shehbaz said that under a similar energy package, the industrial and agricultural sectors consumed 410 gigawatts of additional electricity, enabling increased production, higher exports, and expanded job opportunities.
He added that the use of additional power allowed industries to operate at full capacity, boosting both domestic output and international competitiveness.
The premier praised Power Minister Sardar Owais Leghari and his team for their dedicated efforts in designing the package, calling their work a “commendable step toward sustainable growth”. He reaffirmed that the government is taking strategic steps to enhance the regional competitiveness of Pakistan’s domestic industries and the agricultural sector.
Optimism for Pakistan’s economic future
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism that the country’s economic indicators have improved due to the government’s sound policies and collaborative efforts across sectors.
“By the grace of Allah, our economy is improving. But we all must continue to work harder together,” he said. “I am firmly convinced that Pakistan will soon achieve its goal of economic independence.”
