Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced in a swift decision on Wednesday that bulletproof vehicles will be dispatched immediately to Balochistan, following the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s refusal to accept them.
Naqvi’s announcement came in direct response to a tweet from Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, who had requested that the vehicles be allocated to his province, citing its ongoing struggle against terrorism.
KP CM Afridi declines bulletproof vehicles
According to official sources, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi declined to take delivery of the bulletproof vehicles offered to his province.
While no specific reason was cited publicly, the decision prompted Balochistan’s Chief Minister Bugti to step in with a formal request on social media, saying that since KP had refused the offer, Balochistan — also a terrorism-affected region — should receive them instead.
Bugti requests transfer for security enhancement
In his tweet, Chief Minister Bugti highlighted that Balochistan continues to face the brunt of terrorism, and the addition of bulletproof vehicles would enhance the province’s counter-terrorism capacity.
He wrote that Balochistan’s law enforcement agencies operate under constant threat, and improved protection for officials and security personnel is essential for the province’s safety and stability.
Interior minister responds promptly
Responding swiftly, Interior Minister Naqvi confirmed the transfer, stating: “These bullet-proof vehicles will be sent to Balochistan immediately to enhance counter-terrorism efforts.”
Naqvi emphasized that the federal government remains committed to supporting provinces in their fight against terrorism and ensuring the safety of law enforcement agencies operating in high-risk zones.
