An important meeting of the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was held in Islamabad on Thursday, where the government reviewed national and international affairs, the regional security situation, and ongoing administrative reforms.
The prime minister took the cabinet into confidence regarding his foreign visits, recent diplomatic engagements, and Pakistan’s achievements at the international level. Cabinet members were briefed on the current regional situation, including security developments in neighbouring countries.
Cabinet expresses full support for Pakistan Army
The meeting witnessed a strong show of solidarity with the Pakistani armed forces. The cabinet members paid glowing tributes to the martyred soldiers who laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism and expressed complete solidarity with their families.
Participants unanimously reaffirmed their resolve to uproot terrorism in all its forms, reiterating that the sacrifices of the security forces will not go in vain.
“The government stands firmly with the armed forces in their mission to eliminate terrorism and ensure lasting peace in the country,” the statement from the meeting read.
Detailed review of regional security and terror threats
The cabinet reviewed in detail the ongoing infiltration and terror threats emanating from Afghanistan, as well as India’s hostile activities and the actions of terrorist elements operating against Pakistan’s internal stability.
Ministers expressed deep concern over the cross-border challenges and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and maintaining peace through coordinated national efforts.
Focus on economic, trade, regulatory reforms
Apart from security matters, the meeting also covered significant economic and administrative issues. The cabinet ratified the decisions of the Cabinet Committee on Intergovernmental Trade Matters, underscoring the government’s resolve to promote transparent and efficient trade practices across the federation.
The cabinet further reviewed recommendations from the Cabinet Committee on Regulatory Reforms and considered proposals related to Overseas Employment and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), emphasizing skill development for the country’s youth.
Additionally, the decisions of three separate meetings of the Cabinet Committee on legislative cases were also ratified.
Power sector reforms
A detailed report from the Ministry of Energy was presented during the meeting, outlining ongoing and proposed reforms in the power sector. The prime minister emphasized the importance of efficiency, transparency, and sustainability in the energy supply chain to support long-term economic stability.
The cabinet appreciated the efforts of the Energy Ministry in implementing structural changes aimed at reducing circular debt, modernizing power distribution, and improving governance within the energy sector.
Commitment to stability and reform
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded the meeting by highlighting the government’s commitment to peace, stability, and economic revival. He reiterated that Pakistan’s progress depends on strong institutions, consistent reforms, and unity in the face of internal and external challenges.
“We stand united in our determination to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, strengthen the economy, and ensure peace through collective resolve,” the Prime Minister said.
