Australia Women secured a commanding 107-run victory over Pakistan Women in the ninth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday.
Beth Mooney led the charge for Australia with a composed innings of 109 from 114 deliveries, including 11 boundaries. Her efforts earned her the Player of the Match award. Australia posted 221 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs after electing to bat first.
Alana King added valuable lower-order runs, remaining unbeaten on 51 from 49 balls, which included three fours and three sixes. The innings faltered early, with Australia reduced to 59 for 4 inside 15 overs, but Mooney anchored the innings and built a crucial 106-run ninth-wicket stand with King.
Pakistan’s bowlers kept the scoring rate in check, with Nashra Sandhu claiming 3 for 37 from her 10 overs. Rameen Shamim and Fatima Sana took two wickets each, while Sadia Iqbal and Diana Baig also picked up one apiece.
In reply, Pakistan were dismissed for 114 in 36.3 overs. Only Sidra Amin reached a significant score, making 35 from 52 balls. Rameen Shamim scored 15, as the Australian bowlers maintained tight lines and consistent pressure. Other batters failed to show any significant resistance with the bat.
Kim Garth starred with the ball, taking 3 for 14 in six overs. Annabel Sutherland picked up 2 for 15 from 8.3 overs, while Megan Schutt also claimed two wickets. Alana King, Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham shared the remaining three wickets.
Pakistan lost regular wickets during the powerplay and never recovered, slipping to 49 for 6 inside the 13th over. The lower order offered limited resistance, and the innings came to an end in the 37th over.
With this result, Australia strengthened their position in the tournament standings, while Pakistan face an uphill task to stay in contention.
