After refusing to accept the official Asia Cup 2025 trophy, Indian players have now drawn criticism for sharing what fans called “fake trophy photos” on social media.
Indian cricketers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill posted pictures of themselves standing with a trophy online.
However, cricket followers were quick to point out that the team never received the official Asia Cup silverware during the post-match ceremony.
Fans mocked the players, questioning what they hoped to prove with “manufactured photos” when the actual trophy was withheld.
The controversy stems from India’s unprecedented decision to refuse the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after their victory over Pakistan.
The BCCI formally informed the ACC of the refusal, leading to the trophy being withdrawn from the field. Mohsin Naqvi, standing firm, presented the runner-up cheque to Pakistan’s captain Salman Ali Agha instead. The closing ceremony concluded without the winners lifting a trophy.
