Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf gave a pointed response to trolling from Indian spectators during Sunday’s match against India by reminding them of a painful chapter in history.
When taunted, Rauf gestured with his hand, showing six fingers in the form of “six zero,” a reference to Pakistan’s recent military triumph.
Haris Rauf’s gesture sparks debate
During the exchange, Haris Rauf made it clear that he had not forgotten Marka-e-Haq, when Pakistan Air Force pilots shot down six Indian fighter jets, including Rafales. The incident, which remains a source of pride in Pakistan’s defense history, was famously described by Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed as a “six-zero” victory.
Khawaja Asif reacts on X
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif weighed in on the controversy with a supportive message for the pacer making the gestures. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“Haris Rauf hit it right. Keep it up. Cricket matches will happen, but India will not forget 6-0 till the day of judgement and the world will also remember it.”
His statement reinforced the symbolism of Rauf’s gesture, amplifying its impact in both sporting and political circles.
On Sunday night, Abhishek Sharma’s whirlwind 39-ball 74 and Shubman Gill’s brilliant 28-ball 47 powered India to a six-wicket victory against Pakistan in the 14th match of the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India had elected to bowl first after winning the toss.
