The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has carried over 90 million passengers since it opened in October 2018, according to the bridge’s border inspection station on Tuesday.
As of Monday, the Zhuhai port has handled more than 90 million travelers and more than 18.68 million vehicles. The bridge has seen strong traffic growth, with passenger numbers reaching 27 million in 2024. This year, 21.2 million passengers have already traveled, marking a 19 percent increase compared to last year. Additionally, annual trips are expected to exceed 30 million for the first time by the end of the year.
The increase in individual travel plans from the mainland to Hong Kong and Macao has greatly boosted tourism across the bridge. Since the start of 2025, over 9.01 million mainland residents have traveled using the bridge.
The crossing has significantly shortened travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from three hours to just 30 minutes, increasing its popularity among Hong Kong and Macao residents for tourism, business, study, and family visits. Trips by residents of Hong Kong and Macao rose from 4.5 million in 2019 to 16.2 million in 2024, with 2025 figures already surpassing 12.7 million. Full-year forecasts estimate over 18 million trips.
