Qatar’s prime minister has called for a “collective response” to Israel’s strike on Doha, warning that the entire Gulf region is now at risk.
The attack, which targeted Hamas officials, killed at least seven people and sparked regional and global condemnation.
Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said on Wednesday that Arab states are consulting on how to respond.
“There is a response that will happen from the region. This response is currently under consultation and discussion with other partners in the region,” he said.
He added that the attack endangered not only Qatar but the broader Gulf, accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of dragging the Middle East into “chaos.”
Regional and international reactions
Arab leaders swiftly traveled to Doha to express solidarity with Qatar after the strike. According to Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford, Gulf states are preparing legal avenues to pursue Netanyahu for alleged violations of international law.
“We understand some sort of regional meeting will be held here in Qatar,” Stratford reported. “The countries have pulled together their own legal team.”
Israeli strike on Doha
The Israeli military targeted Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital on Tuesday as they met to discuss a ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump.
At least seven people were killed in the attack, including two Qatari security officers. Hamas said its leadership survived what it described as an assassination attempt.
The strike has been condemned internationally, raising fears of further destabilization in the Gulf.
Israel’s actions in Gaza continue to draw accusations of genocide from human rights groups. On Wednesday alone, at least 72 Palestinians were killed in fresh attacks across the enclave.
Since October 2023, more than 64,656 Palestinians have lost their lives in Israeli bombardments, as the military intensifies efforts to capture Gaza City, home to over one million people.
Qatar’s prime minister warned that the attack on Doha was an attempt to undermine “any chance of peace” in Gaza.
“Everything about the meeting is very well known to the Israelis and the Americans. It’s not something that we are hiding,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
