Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday met Bangladesh’s Adviser on Religious Affairs, Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Dhaka.
During the meeting in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz underlined that Pakistan and Bangladesh share a common history, culture, and faith that serve as a foundation for brotherly relations.
He stressed the need to further enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, academic exchanges, and people-to-people contacts.
PM Shehbaz also recalled his meetings with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in New York and Cairo, noting Yunus’ expressed desire to deepen relations between the two nations.
Positive developments in ties
PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction over the positive direction of bilateral relations. He highlighted ongoing academic exchanges, growing trade and economic engagement, and closer people-to-people connections as encouraging signs of stronger ties.
Bangladesh High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khan accompanied Dr. Khalid Hossain during the meeting.
Condolence letter, support from Dhaka
Dr Khalid Hossain handed over a letter from Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
In it, Yunus expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by recent floods in Pakistan, while also offering Bangladesh’s assistance.
The Bangladeshi adviser reaffirmed that the two countries’ brotherly relations are firmly anchored in shared historical links and faith.
The meeting also touched upon the early resumption of direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh to promote travel, trade, and cultural exchanges.
PM Shehbaz reiterated his invitation to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus for an official visit to Pakistan. In turn, Dr. Khalid Hossain conveyed an invitation for PM Shehbaz to visit Bangladesh.
