Pakistan and Azerbaijan have resolved to bolster partnership across various sectors.
According to details surfaced on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The two leaders reviewed recent regional and global developments.
They also discussed bilateral ties as part of the follow-up to the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
On the other side, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar condemned the Israeli attack on Qatar, describing it as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said the assault was an illegal act and an act of provocation that was fuelling dangerous tensions in the region.
He remarked that Israeli atrocities in Palestine had already destabilised the region and the latest attack posed a serious threat to regional peace and security.
Dar added that the strikes also contravened international laws and universally accepted global norms. He said Pakistan, along with Algeria and Somalia, had requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
He mentioned that Pakistan had called for an urgent debate at the UN Human Rights Council and welcomed the decision to convene an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the leadership, government and brotherly people of Qatar, Dar urged the international community to condemn Israel strongly and take effective action against it.
