Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, signed at the White House Summit under the patronage of US President Donald Trump.
The deal, aimed at ending decades of conflict in the South Caucasus, has been hailed by the Pakistani premier as a “new era of peace, stability and cooperation” for the war-torn region.
Message of solidarity from Pakistan
In his statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan, calling the accord a “manifestation of wisdom and foresight.”
“Pakistan has always stood with the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan and we stand with them on this historic occasion as well,” he said. The premier emphasized that Islamabad fully supports Baku in its efforts to secure lasting stability.
US role in brokering peace
Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the role of US President Trump in facilitating the agreement, which was reached after years of strained relations and armed clashes between the two neighbours over Nagorno-Karabakh.
“This agreement will create new opportunities for trade, connectivity and regional integration,” Shehbaz noted, adding that the White House-led diplomacy had opened the door for sustainable cooperation in the region.
The premier expressed hope that the spirit of dialogue shown in the South Caucasus peace talks would serve as an example for resolving long-standing disputes in other parts of the world.
Pakistan, he said, views this milestone not only as a diplomatic breakthrough for Azerbaijan and Armenia but also as a reminder that persistent dialogue and international mediation can transform entrenched conflicts into opportunities for progress.
