Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled services exports witnessed a robust increase of $586 million during the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching an all-time high of $3.809 billion, the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication was informed on Thursday.
The committee, chaired by Senator Pilusha Khan, reviewed the performance of the country’s technology sector in a detailed briefing by officials of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB).
The data presented showed that the sector recorded an 18 per cent increase in export earnings compared to the previous year’s $3.223 billion.
PSEB officials noted that despite prevailing global economic challenges, Pakistan’s IT sector had shown resilience and growth. They highlighted that in June 2025 alone, the country earned $338 million through ICT service exports — the highest monthly remittance recorded to date.
The committee was also briefed on the growing number of businesses entering the technology space. During the fiscal year, over 22,000 IT-related companies and call centres were registered across the country. Of these, 14,890 were IT firms, while 7,400 were registered as call centres.
Officials said the increase in registration reflected the sector’s growing dynamism and the rising interest of entrepreneurs in digital services, customer support operations, and software development.
“This growth is a positive indicator of the sector’s potential and the increasing contribution of digital services to the national economy,” said a PSEB representative.
Senator Palwasha Khan commended the PSEB’s performance but stressed the need for policy continuity and further investment in digital infrastructure, particularly in remote regions, to ensure inclusive growth.
The committee also discussed avenues for skill development, export facilitation, and regulatory simplification for startups and IT service providers.
