Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has said that cricket should be kept separate from politics, following India’s decision not to play against Pakistan Champions in the 2025 World Championship of Legends (WCL).
Speaking on Sunday, Afridi said: ‘Players should remain good ambassadors of cricket.’ He expressed disappointment at the situation, saying that the Indian players had travelled to England and even participated in training sessions before withdrawing from the match against Pakistan.
“It would have been better if the Indian players had informed organisers in advance about their unwillingness to face Pakistan Champions,” he said.
Afridi said: “The situation changed suddenly. The entire scenario shifted within a single day. Just one player’s stance altered everything.”
“Even the Indian players themselves were disappointed with how matters unfolded,” Afridi said.
