Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan has sustained an injury during the shooting of his upcoming action-thriller film King, resulting in a halt to the film’s production schedule and the actor being advised complete rest for a month.
According to Indian media reports, the 59-year-old actor was filming an intense action sequence at Mumbai’s Golden Tobacco Studio when the mishap occurred.
While the nature of the injury has not been officially disclosed, industry sources suggest it is muscular and not serious. Nevertheless, Khan, accompanied by his team, has travelled to the United States for immediate medical attention.
“This isn’t a major injury, but more of a muscular strain,” said a close source familiar with the development. “Over the years, Shah Rukh has performed numerous stunts, and has injured multiple muscles in his body. This time as well, doctors have advised him to rest for a month before returning to set.”
The injury has caused a significant disruption in the production of King, which was scheduled to continue filming through July and August. The next phase of shooting has now been pushed to September or October, as producers await Khan’s recovery. Bookings for shoots at Mumbai’s Film City, Golden Tobacco Studio, and Yash Raj Films (YRF) have reportedly been postponed until further notice.
Directed by Siddharth Anand—who previously helmed Khan’s blockbuster Pathaan—King features an ensemble cast including Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Jaideep Ahlawat, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, and Abhi Verma. Suhana, Shah Rukh’s daughter, is expected to play a central role in what is being touted as an emotional yet action-packed narrative.
Though not an official remake, the film is said to be inspired by the style of the 2000 film Bichhoo, which itself was an adaptation of Luc Besson’s Léon: The Professional. In King, Khan is reportedly playing the role of a brooding assassin who embarks on a journey of revenge following a tragic incident, with Suhana’s character joining him on the mission.
Initially, Sujoy Ghosh was slated to direct the project, but he was later replaced by Siddharth Anand, adding to the film’s production changes. Filming is set to take place across India and various locations in Europe.
Despite the setback, sources close to the production remain optimistic. “Once Shah Rukh makes a full recovery, he is expected to return to work with full energy,” the source added.
King is one of the most anticipated projects of the year, particularly after the success of Pathaan and Jawan, which reaffirmed Shah Rukh Khan’s standing as one of Indian cinema’s most enduring stars.
