The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has moved forward with several key infrastructure projects aimed at expanding and modernizing air connectivity across the country, including new airports in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir), Dera Ismail Khan, and Hyderabad, as well as the reconstruction of Sukkur Airport.
According to official sources, the feasibility report for the construction of a new airport in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, is in its final stages. In Dera Ismail Khan, land acquisition for a new airport is already underway. Authorities say this development will address long-standing connectivity issues faced by southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and surrounding areas.
The PAA also briefed members of the National Assembly on plans to reconstruct the existing Sukkur Airport as well as construct a new one to develop the area into a regional hub. The airport is strategically located and will serve as a key facility for Sindh’s northern belt.
In a significant push for Hyderabad Airport, the defense secretary directed the PAA to initiate commercial flight operations. Additionally, the government has plans to open an aviation training school at the Hyderabad facility to support skill development in the aviation sector.
