The ruling alliance has officially secured a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly following the restoration of reserved seats for women and minorities, a move made possible after the implementation of the Supreme Court’s landmark June 27 verdict.
According to the latest figures released by the National Assembly Secretariat, the ruling coalition now holds 232 out of 333 occupied seats, well above the 224 required for a two-thirds majority, empowering the government to pass constitutional amendments without opposition support.
PML-N emerges as largest party
With 123 seats, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has cemented its position as the largest party in the National Assembly. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) follows with 74 seats, while Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) holds 22 seats. Other coalition partners include IPP (4 seats), PML-Q (5), BAP (1), National Party (1), and Muslim League-Zia (1), along with an independent member.
The opposition, on the other hand, holds 98 seats in total. This includes Sunni Ittehad Council (80), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (10), PTI-backed independents (5), and one member each from BNP, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), and PkMAP.
Three National Assembly seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are still pending notification. Of these, two are expected to go to PML-N and one to JUI-F, further strengthening the ruling coalition.
The case of JUI-F’s Sadaf Ehsan is pending in the Supreme Court. PML-N’s Sobia Shahid and Shehla Bano took oath as members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. The PML-N will give new names for these seats to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
