A visiting lecturer at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur’s Department of Software Engineering has been accused of sexually harassing a female student in exchange for academic favours, prompting swift action from university authorities and law enforcement.
According to a notification issued by the university administration, the suspect lecturer has been barred from entering the university premises as an investigation into the matter gets underway. The university’s Anti-Harassment Committee has formally initiated a probe, assuring that the incident will be dealt with in accordance with the law and institutional policies.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Police Station. The student, in her written complaint, alleged that the lecturer deliberately failed her and then made inappropriate demands, offering to pass her if she visited him at his residence.
She further claimed that when she visited his home, the lecturer allegedly molested and harassed her. Upon her refusal to comply with his demands, he reportedly asked her for Rs50,000 in exchange for clearing the exam.
The police stated that a transparent investigation will be conducted and all legal aspects of the case will be reviewed to ensure justice is served. University officials have reiterated their commitment to providing a safe and respectful environment for all students and staff, vowing zero tolerance for harassment.
Authorities have urged anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward as the inquiry continues.
