China condemns Israel’s violations of Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and urges Israel to immediately halt all risky military actions, China’s ambassador to the UN, Fu Cong, said on Friday.
China opposes the escalation of conflicts and expressed deep concern about the consequences that may result from Israel’s actions, Fu said at the UN Security Council’s emergency meeting on Israel’s strikes against Iran.
Fu said the sudden escalation of tensions in the region serves no party’s interests. China urges Israel to immediately cease all military actions and avoid further escalation. He called on all relevant parties to abide by the UN Charter and international law and to resolve disputes through political and diplomatic means.
China is deeply concerned about the negative impact of recent developments on diplomatic negotiations over the Iranian nuclear issue, Fu said. China has consistently advocated resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiation, firmly opposing the use of force, illegal unilateral sanctions and armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities.
Noting that Iran is a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Fu emphasized that Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy should be fully respected.
