Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday condemned what he described as an “unprovoked attack” by Israel on Iran, calling it a dangerous act that could further destabilise the already volatile Middle East.
In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister expressed deep concern over the loss of lives resulting from the Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and extended his sympathies to the Iranian people.
“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, today’s unprovoked attack on Iran by Israel,” the prime minister wrote. “I convey my deepest sympathies to the Iranian people on the loss of lives in this attack.”
The Israeli strikes reportedly targeted multiple high-value military and nuclear sites across Tehran and other cities, killing several top Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists, including Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri and nuclear physicist Fereydoon Abbasi.
The Pakistani premier warned that such actions threaten to push the region into deeper conflict and urged immediate global intervention to de-escalate tensions.
“This grave and highly irresponsible act is deeply alarming and risks further de-stabilising an already volatile region,” he added. “We urge the international community and the United Nations to take urgent steps to prevent any further escalation that could imperil regional and global peace.”
