Pakistan on Tuesday strongly condemned recent remarks made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat, describing them as a “hate-driven invocation of violence” and an alarming departure from the political maturity expected of a leader of a nuclear-armed state.
The Foreign Office expressed deep concern over the deteriorating tone and rhetoric of Indian leadership, urging the international community to take serious note of the potential threat such statements pose to regional stability.
Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said Modi’s speech, delivered with the fervour of an election campaign rather than the sobriety befitting a head of government, risked setting a dangerous precedent in an already volatile region. “We regret the continued erosion of political maturity and decency in Indian statecraft,” he stated.
The spokesperson emphasised that such provocative rhetoric violates the fundamental principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, which obliges member states to resolve disputes peacefully and refrain from threats or use of force against the sovereignty and political independence of other states.
“Pakistan views these remarks as a reckless provocation intended to divert attention from ongoing human rights abuses and demographic manipulation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” Shafqat Ali Khan said.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and global counter-terrorism efforts, underscoring that these actions speak more meaningfully than India’s hostile rhetoric.
The spokesperson pointed to the rise of majoritarianism, religious intolerance, and systematic marginalisation of minorities under the Hindutva ideology within India as genuine concerns that the Indian government must address.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to peace based on mutual respect and sovereign equality, Shafqat Ali Khan warned that any threat to Pakistan’s security or territorial integrity would be met with a full and appropriate response under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The Foreign Office appealed to the international community to take serious note of India’s increasingly provocative and aggressive statements, which undermine both regional stability and prospects for lasting peace in South Asia.
