Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed on Sunday their commitment to strengthen the deep-rooted, historical and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Türkiye.
According to details, PM Shehbaz held an important meeting with the Turkish president at the historic Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul during his two-day official visit to Türkiye.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Gen Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi were part of the Pakistani delegation. President Erdogan hosted a formal dinner in honour of the visiting delegation.
According to the official statement, both the leaders reviewed all aspects of bilateral ties and expressed their resolve to elevate the strategic partnership to new heights.
PM Shehbaz thanked the Turkish leadership and people for their unwavering support during recent regional and global developments. He stated that Türkiye’s principled stance and the goodwill of the Turkish people are a source of comfort and strength for Pakistan.
The prime minister praised the patriotism of the Pakistani nation and the commitment and sacrifices of its armed forces, highlighting their vital role in the defence of the homeland.
He also emphasised the need to expand economic cooperation, increase bilateral investment, and pursue joint ventures. Key sectors identified for mutual collaboration included renewable energy, information technology, defence production, infrastructure development, and agriculture.
Both leaders expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, called for an immediate ceasefire, and stressed the importance of uninterrupted humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people.
They also reaffirmed Türkiye’s principled support for Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue.
Turkish defence minister meets with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir
According to Turkish media, Türkiye’s Defence Minister, Yasar Guler, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Discussions focused on matters of mutual interest and the strengthening of fraternal Pakistan-Türkiye relations. The Commander of the Turkish Land Forces was also present at the meeting.
