Two new polio cases have been confirmed in Pakistan – both originating from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) – bringing the national tally to 10 so far this year.
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), one child each from Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts of KP has tested positive for the wild poliovirus. The confirmation was made after laboratory analysis conducted by NIH in Islamabad.
With these latest cases, the total number of children affected by the virus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to five in 2025.
Officials said that both cases involve children under the age of five, and investigations are underway to determine their vaccination history and trace the possible source of infection.
