Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has dismissed India’s claim of prior warning regarding recent military activities as ‘absurd’ stating that Pakistan does not rely on Indian intelligence sources for its security assessments.
In an interview with British Broadcast Corporation (BBC), DG ISPR said that Pakistan’s air defense systems detect any drone intrusion instantly, particularly when Indian drones with a cross-section radar signature enter its territory.
Speaking on recent tensions between the two countries, he revealed that on May 7, India’s Director General Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to Pakistan, expressing a desire for dialogue. “We clearly told them that we would only talk once we had responded accordingly,” he said. “After our response, their military spokesperson publicly stated they did not wish to escalate further.”
Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif credited former U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership in diffusing earlier crises, noting that even external actors wanted to avoid escalation.
Highlighting the contrast in approach, the DG ISPR said Pakistan is currently celebrating peace, but remains fully prepared for war. “The Indian state has been hijacked by a terrorist and a single act of terrorism. Yet no one in India is questioning the facts surrounding the Pulwama incident,” he added.
He stressed that every few years, India attempts to build a false narrative to justify its actions. “The world has now realized that India’s narrative lacks credibility. In the recent standoff, Pakistan has demonstrated maturity and restraint,” he remarked.
Commenting on the broader implications of conflict, the DG ISPR firmly rejected the idea of nuclear confrontation between the two countries. “A nuclear war between Pakistan and India would be utter madness. Such a path could lead to mutual destruction,” he warned. “It must remain unimaginable and irrational.”
Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, he said, “We are a peace-loving nation, but if war is imposed upon us, we are always ready. India is playing with fire by promoting a false narrative and displaying arrogance.”
