The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that most of the plains across the country will remain under the influence of an intense heat wave for the next four days, starting from today until May 24.
According to the department, daytime temperatures in Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan are expected to rise 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal levels.
Meanwhile, Central and Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to see temperatures soaring 5 to 7 degrees Celsius higher than average during this period.
Yesterday, the highest temperatures were recorded in Dadu and Jacobabad, reaching a scorching 48 degrees Celsius. Other notable temperature readings included Larkana, Rohri, and Sibi at 46 degrees Celsius; Peshawar at 43; Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Muzaffarabad at 41; Islamabad at 39; Quetta at 36; Karachi at 35; and Gilgit at 34 degrees Celsius.
The weather is expected to remain extremely hot and dry in Islamabad and surrounding areas, as well as in most districts of Punjab and Sindh. Similarly, Balochistan will experience hot and dry conditions throughout the province, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also witness predominantly hot and dry weather.
However, light rain is forecast in some northern regions. Abbottabad, Kohistan, and neighboring areas may receive light showers after noon. Evening light rain is also expected in Murree, Galiyat, and their surrounding regions.
The Meteorological Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions against the intense heat wave, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
