Pakistan has right to take all necessary measures in self-defence per UN Charter
Pakistan has the right to take all necessary measures in self-defence under the UN Charter, said Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan during a weekly press briefing in Islamabad.
He strongly condemned India’s recent attack on Pakistan, stating that “Pakistan had no involvement in the Pahalgam incident, yet India carried out an unprovoked assault.”
The spokesperson questioned whether a nation could justify attacking another solely on the basis of social media posts, calling such actions reckless and unlawful.
The spokesperson warned that India’s aggressive behavior has brought two nuclear powers face to face, threatening peace in the region. He added that India’s actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty amounted to an attack on the people of Pakistan, making it clear that the treaty cannot be unilaterally revoked.
Shafqat Ali Khan also criticized the undiplomatic tone of the Indian Foreign Secretary and said India has been continuously attempting to destabilize smaller neighboring countries. He pointed out that Indian state-backed media is fueling war hysteria, and the Pahalgam incident is being used as a cover to launch propaganda against Pakistan.
The spokesperson claimed that India itself is involved in cross-border terrorism and has conducted drone strikes on several Pakistani cities, killing innocent civilians, including women and children.
He concluded by urging the international community to hold India accountable for its hostile and unlawful actions.
