The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, windstorms, and isolated hailstorms across the country from May 8 to 12.
According to an advisory issued on Wednesday, the system is expected to initially affect the upper and central parts of the country before spreading towards the southern regions. The PMD has warned of possible heavy downpours and hailstorms in isolated areas and advised local authorities to remain vigilant.
In its statement, the PMD cautioned that strong winds and hail could pose risks to infrastructure, including power lines, trees, and solar panels. Farmers, particularly in wheat-growing regions, have been urged to plan their harvesting activities in line with the weather outlook.
Regional forecast
In Kashmir, districts such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and Poonch are expected to receive intermittent rain and thunderstorms with chances of hailstorms from May 8 to 12.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, and Shigar during the same period.
The federal capital Islamabad and parts of Punjab — including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, and Lahore — are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and isolated hailstorms from the night of May 7 till May 11. Southern Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, may see similar conditions between May 8 and 10.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy showers and hailstorms are expected in Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and adjoining areas from the night of May 7 to May 12. Southern districts such as D.I. Khan and Waziristan are likely to be affected between May 8 and 10.
Balochistan is also under the influence of the system, with Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, and Lasbella forecast to receive rainfall from May 8 to 10.
Meanwhile, in Sindh, districts including Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar may experience thunderstorms and moderate rainfall from the evening of May 8 to May 10.
The PMD has advised relevant authorities to implement precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impact of the adverse weather, including ensuring emergency response readiness and protecting vulnerable infrastructure.
Authorities have also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours and stay updated with weather advisories through official channels.
