ISLAMABAD (DI NEWS) : Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Jiang Zaidong, held an interactive session with leading representatives of Pakistani media, offering deep insights into China’s neighborhood diplomacy, China-Pakistan strategic relations, and China’s stance on global economic challenges.
Ambassador Jiang shared highlights from the recent Central Conference on Work Related to Neighboring Countries held in Beijing, where President Xi Jinping delivered a landmark speech. The Ambassador noted that President Xi emphasized building a community with a shared future among neighboring countries, stressing values of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness. Ambassador Jiang added that China has already formed consensus on this vision with 17 neighboring nations, including Pakistan, and has become the largest trading partner for 18 countries in the region.
Addressing China-Pakistan relations, Ambassador Jiang reiterated that Pakistan remains a strategic priority in China’s neighborhood diplomacy. He stated that 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Pakistan, while 2026 will see the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties. These milestones, he noted, present new opportunities to elevate the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic partnership to greater heights.
Ambassador Jiang outlined four areas of focus for future cooperation:
1. Enhancing Strategic Mutual Trust – Supporting Pakistan’s sovereignty and development goals.
2. Deepening Development Integration – Aligning Belt and Road cooperation with Pakistan’s “5Es” development agenda to advance CPEC.
3. Expanding Security Cooperation – Implementing the China-Pakistan MoU under the Global Security Initiative (GSI).
4. Strengthening People-to-People Ties – Encouraging cultural exchanges and fostering civilizational harmony.
On the global front, the Ambassador strongly criticized the U.S.’s indiscriminate imposition of tariffs, calling it a manifestation of economic bullying and unilateralism. He cited historical failures of similar U.S. policies and warned that current protectionist moves risk triggering inflation, job losses, and recession. Ambassador Jiang emphasized that China, guided by resilience and self-reliance, continues to register robust growth—highlighting a 5.4% GDP growth and 6.9% export rise in Q1 2025.
He reassured that China will respond firmly to protect its sovereignty and economic rights while continuing to open its economy and support global development.
Ambassador Jiang concluded by urging developing nations, especially members of the Global South, to unite against trade protectionism and work together to uphold the multilateral trade order. He stressed that China and Pakistan must stand as pillars of international justice and inclusive globalization.
