By: Farid Mustafayev The majority of the international community recognizes this territory simply as the “Republic of Armenia.” However, Azerbaijani society, historians, and internally displaced communities assess these lands from a fundamentally different perspective. A significant part of present-day Armenia is considered historically inhabited, governed, and culturally developed by Azerbaijanis over centuries. The term “Western Azerbaijan” is used to describe these territories — geographically referring to the historical Azerbaijani homeland located west of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijanis living in these areas were subjected to gradual demographic pressure beginning in 1828, Soviet deportations during 1948–1953, and ethnic violence during 1988–1991,…

According to projections by the United Nations, a significant share of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas in the coming decades. This trend not only creates new opportunities for urban development but also brings forward critical challenges such as housing provision, transportation systems, environmental safety, social equality, and the impacts of climate change. In this context, the exchange of international experience in urban planning and sustainable development has become increasingly important. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decade-long campaign to isolate Pakistan internationally has largely failed, according to reports in Arab media. The Al Jazeera report highlighted that since Modi’s 2016 announcement, Pakistan has maintained active diplomatic ties simultaneously with Washington, Beijing, Tehran, and Riyadh, establishing itself as a key regional actor. During the 2025 Pakistan-India tensions, Pakistan reportedly gained the upper hand in the global narrative, with the international community not accepting India’s unsubstantiated claims regarding the Pahalgam incident.
