LAHORE : Lahore has once again topped the global list of most polluted cities, as toxic smog and thick fog continue to engulf major parts of Punjab. According to an international air quality monitoring website, Lahore recorded an alarming 327 AQI, placing it at the top among the world’s most polluted cities. Karachi followed closely with 282 AQI, while data from the Punjab Environment Department showed that Kasur was the province’s most polluted city at 348 AQI. China launched a new communication technology test satellite on Tuesday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern province of Sichuan. A Long March-3B rocket, carrying the Shiyan-22 satellite, blasted off at 11:08 p.m. Beijing Time, and sent the satellite into the preset orbit. China’s consumer inflation picked up in November, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising 0.7 percent year on year, according to the official data released Wednesday. The reading marks the highest level since March 2024 and represents a 0.5-percentage-point increase from October’s growth rate. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said the wider year-on-year gain was primarily driven by food prices, which shifted from declines in previous months to an increase in November. ISLAMABAD : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the date for local government elections in Islamabad. According to the Election Commission, local government elections in Islamabad will be held on 15 February. Polling will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. SHIKARPUR : In a major police encounter in Shikarpur, nine armed dacoits were killed, while four police officers, including two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), were injured.
