Apple has introduced a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge on App Store product pages to help users identify apps optimised for its foldable smartphone.
According to a report by Neowin, the label highlights apps designed to take advantage of the iPhone Duo’s dual-display setup, allowing developers to make better use of the device’s larger inner screen.
In a press release, Apple highlighted apps and games across several categories that offer experiences tailored to the foldable device.
The company said both displays share the same aspect ratio, allowing apps to transition smoothly between the outer and inner screens while scaling proportionally. This enables users to continue where they left off when opening or closing the device.
Netflix, Prime Video adapt to the foldable screen
Netflix has introduced an experience that adjusts as users open, close or rotate the iPhone Duo. Users can begin watching clips on the outer display and unfold the phone to continue viewing on the larger screen.
Prime Video offers a different layout, with video content displayed in the upper half of the screen and additional information about the cast and bonus content shown below.
The device can also support simultaneous viewing of live sports and statistics through apps covering competitions such as Major League Baseball (MLB) and the PGA Tour.
Slack, Zoom and productivity apps get more space
The foldable display is also designed to improve productivity by allowing applications to show more information at once.
Apps such as Slack and Zoom can use the additional screen space to display video calls alongside workspaces and conversations.
Apple’s Split View feature allows users to run apps side by side, making it easier to switch between tasks without repeatedly moving between separate screens.
Microsoft Word and Outlook are also expected to receive a new “desktop-class experience” in the coming weeks, according to Apple.
Developers prepare apps for iPhone Duo
Apple said developers have shown interest in building experiences for the new form factor. More than 2,000 developers have attended over 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities worldwide, the company said.
However, app optimisation depends on developers using the iOS 27.1 software development kit (SDK), according to the report.
The badge is intended to make it easier for users to distinguish applications that have been specifically adapted for the foldable device from those that may simply run on it.
iPhone Duo sales begin October 23
The iPhone Duo is scheduled to go on sale on October 23, with a starting price of $1,999, according to Neowin.
The device represents Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, where screen size, multitasking capabilities and app optimisation are key parts of the user experience.
By highlighting compatible apps directly on the App Store, Apple is seeking to make the software experience a more visible part of the appeal of its new device.
