England head coach Brendon McCullum has warned that playing Pakistan on home soil will be a challenging task, saying his team must adapt its strategy to the conditions during the ongoing ODI tri-series.
Speaking at a press conference, McCullum praised Pakistan’s hospitality and the atmosphere in the country while acknowledging the home side’s advantage ahead of England’s opening match against Pakistan on October 20.
“The people of Pakistan are hospitable, and the atmosphere is wonderful,” McCullum said.
He added that Pakistan would be a difficult opponent in familiar conditions and that England would need an aggressive strategy to compete against the hosts.
England prepare for challenge in Pakistan
McCullum described Pakistan as a strong team and highlighted the advantage of playing at home, where players are familiar with the pitches and local conditions.
The England coach said teams competing in a tri-series must remain flexible and adjust their plans according to the conditions.
His comments come as England prepare to face Pakistan in the second match of the 2026–27 ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Pakistan begin series with victory
Pakistan opened the tournament with a 37-run victory over Sri Lanka on October 18, giving the hosts an early boost ahead of their meeting with England.
The tri-series features Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka and runs from October 18 to October 31, with matches scheduled in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
The tournament is also part of the teams’ preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Pakistan and England are scheduled to meet again on October 25 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The series final is set for October 31, also in Lahore.
