Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced plans to provide 100,000 Chinese-made electric bikes to students free across the province this year, highlighting the growing role of Chinese electric mobility technology in supporting student transportation and expanding access to education.
The initiative is aimed at facilitating students’ daily mobility and helping them overcome transportation difficulties that can affect their ability to attend educational institutions, particularly those who travel considerable distances to pursue their studies.
Maryam Nawaz made the announcement while addressing a ceremony at the University of Sahiwal, where she distributed Honhaar (intelligent) scholarships among 1,500 students from different educational institutions and laptops among 4,700 male and female students in the district.
The announcement places Chinese-made electric bikes at the centre of another provincial initiative designed to support young people, while also reflecting the expanding potential of electric mobility solutions in Pakistan’s transportation sector.
The planned distribution of the procured electric bikes combines a student welfare objective with the potential expansion of electric mobility in Punjab, placing affordable transportation alongside educational support as part of the province’s youth-focused development agenda.
