United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has concluded his three-day visit to Pakistan and departed Islamabad, the Foreign Office said.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson, the visit reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering commitment” to the UN Charter, multilateralism and global peace.
Guterres held meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during his stay in Pakistan.
Guterres receives Nishan-e-Imtiaz
During his meeting with President Zardari, Guterres was awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his services to global peace.
The UN chief’s leadership and role in advancing international cooperation were also recognised during the meeting.
Kashmir, Palestine and regional issues discussed
Guterres met Ishaq Dar for discussions on a range of regional and international issues, including Kashmir, Palestine and Afghanistan.
The talks also covered counter-terrorism, regional and global peace and climate change, according to the Foreign Office.
Guterres also met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, with discussions focusing on the global and regional situation and UN peacekeeping missions.
Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s contribution to UN peacekeeping, saying the country had lost 181 personnel while serving in peacekeeping missions.
The UN secretary-general appreciated Pakistan’s role in UN peacekeeping missions, according to the Foreign Office.
Foreign Office highlights Pakistan’s UN commitment
The Foreign Office spokesperson said Guterres’ visit was a manifestation of Pakistan’s commitment to the UN Charter and the multilateral system.
The spokesperson also described the visit as recognition of Guterres’ leadership and services for global peace.
Guterres’s departure from Islamabad marked the conclusion of his three-day visit to Pakistan.
