Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has clarified recent remarks about India following his appearance on Shekhar Suman’s show, saying his comments were made as part of a scripted and humorous conversation.
Dutt had previously spoken about not feeling “at peace” in India during the programme, prompting discussion over his comments and their interpretation.
The Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. actor later addressed the remarks on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Sanjay Dutt explains context of remarks
Dutt said he did not intend to hurt or disrespect any individual, community or institution through his comments.
“I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution,” he said.
The actor explained that the conversation on the show had been scripted and was intended to be light-hearted.
Actor cites ‘Gandhigiri’ reference
Dutt said the tone of his comments was influenced by the humour and satire associated with his Munna Bhai films, particularly the concept of “Gandhigiri”.
He said the idea was intended to convey “love, warmth, togetherness, and goodwill”.
Dutt added that his remarks had been interpreted outside their intended context.
Comments sparked discussion
The clarification follows his appearance on Suman’s show, where Dutt drew comparisons involving the country and its residents while discussing the current situation.
His subsequent statement sought to explain the context in which the comments were made rather than leave them open to a different interpretation.
