Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi have agreed that implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is the best course of action to de-escalate regional tensions.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Dar held a telephone conversation with Grossi late Monday night, during which the two discussed the evolving regional situation.
The two sides agreed that implementation of the Islamabad MoU would help reduce tensions and facilitate the normalisation of the situation.
Grossi also offered technical assistance if required, according to the Foreign Office.
Dar reaffirms commitment to international law
During the conversation, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to respecting international law and treaties and advancing the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
He also stressed the importance of the United Nations system in advancing the global agenda for peace and development.
Grossi’s UN secretary-general bid
Dar also conveyed his best wishes to Grossi for his campaign for the position of UN secretary-general.
Grossi, who heads the IAEA, is among the candidates seeking to succeed UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
