Apple may be preparing to enter the growing mobile gaming accessories market with two new game controllers, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Gurman said the two controllers have been in development for more than a year and are designed for use with the iPhone. The devices will also likely carry Beats branding, rather than being launched directly under the Apple name.
References to two unreleased Apple game controllers were reportedly discovered earlier this month in code from the macOS 26.7 beta, adding to speculation that the company is working on new gaming hardware.
Beats could be Apple’s gaming brand
Apple acquired Beats in 2014, initially making the brand best known for headphones and earbuds. It has since expanded Beats into other accessories, including charging cables and iPhone cases.
Using the Beats name for game controllers could allow Apple to enter the gaming accessory market while keeping the products separate from its core Apple-branded hardware.
Gurman said Apple views gaming as a growing market and wants to establish a presence in it.
Pricing and launch date remain unknown
Apple has not officially announced the controllers, and details about their design, pricing or availability remain unclear.
The reported development of two models also suggests Apple could be considering more than one controller option, although their differences have not been revealed.
