That transparency gap is familiar with cloud assistants, yet it carries extra weight given Google’s business model.
Siri AI also supports text input for those who prefer not to speak aloud, keeps a history of previous conversations, and can ask clarifying questions instead of defaulting to a web search. A dedicated Siri app launches today, giving the feature its own home-screen space for the first time. Practical examples include pulling a specific message from a long thread, conducting research, building a travel plan, or taking notes during meetings.
iPhone Handoff: One number across two devices
Another standout feature is iPhone Handoff. It lets a single phone number work across two iPhones and switches automatically to whichever device is active. At Apple’s September 9 event, iPhone product marketing vice president Kaiann Drance explained that the number becomes live on the phone the owner picks up.
The feature depends entirely on carrier support. At launch only two networks have it ready: T-Mobile in the United States, which charges $5 a month (roughly Rs 440), and Deutsche Telekom in Germany, which bundles it under its MultiSIM service at €6.95 a month or includes it with some existing plans. Verizon and EE are expected to add support by the end of 2026, with more carriers likely to follow. No Indian telecom operator has announced support yet, so the feature will not work in India for now.
Both iPhones must run iOS 27 and be signed into the same Apple ID. Setup is straightforward: on the second phone open Cellular in Settings, choose “Set up Cellular” or “Add eSIM,” then select the transfer option. Once configured, unlocking either device shows a “Switched to this iPhone” prompt confirming which one currently holds the number.
Only one iPhone can carry the active line at any moment. Reports indicate battery-consumption improvements that should help overall battery life. The update is free and reaches iPhones going back to the iPhone 11. It arrives just days after Apple launched its flagship iPhone 18 Pro models on September 9.
