September 7 was observed as Martyrs’ Day in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at air bases across the country, with tributes paid to the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives defending Pakistan.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the day began with prayers and Quran recitation for the martyrs, honouring their loyalty, bravery and unparalleled valour.
Tributes were paid to all PAF martyrs, including those who sacrificed their lives during the 1965 and 1971 wars as well as the Battle of Haq.
The observance highlighted the courage and sacrifices of PAF personnel and reaffirmed their enduring role in defending the country’s sovereignty and airspace.
The main Martyrs’ Day ceremony was held at Air Headquarters in Islamabad, where Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu was the chief guest.
Air chief honours sacrifices of martyrs
Air Chief Sidhu paid tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Air Force during the ceremony. He said courage, professionalism and unwavering determination to defend the homeland were longstanding traditions of the PAF.
The air chief said the great sacrifices of the martyrs formed the foundation of the proud traditions of the Pakistan Air Force.
Sidhu said the achievements and feats of Pakistan’s predecessors were not merely part of history but represented a living heritage for the nation. He described the martyrs as an eternal symbol of courage, sacrifice and national determination.
“Defending the homeland is a sacred trust,” the air chief said, stressing that the PAF would continue to fulfil this responsibility with steadfastness and commitment.
PAF committed to protecting air borders
The air chief reaffirmed that the Pakistan Air Force remained committed to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and air borders. He said operational readiness was being maintained at all levels to respond effectively to emerging challenges.
According to the air chief, the PAF’s brilliant victory in the battle was a testament to its combat capability and operational preparedness.
The air chief said the Pakistan Air Force must continue to remain at the forefront of modern combat strategy and technology. He emphasised the importance of maintaining high operational standards as the nature of security challenges continues to evolve.
The commitment, he said, was rooted in the sacrifices and legacy of the PAF’s martyrs.
As part of the ceremony, the air chief laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers for the brave martyrs of the Pakistan Air Force.
The ceremony served as a tribute to those who gave their lives in the defence of the country and as a reminder of the values of courage, loyalty, professionalism and sacrifice associated with the PAF.
