China has welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, calling on all parties to fully respect their commitments under the agreement.
The statement comes amid growing international attention on the deal, which is aimed at de-escalating tensions and improving stability in global shipping routes.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, all parties involved in the agreement must adhere to their obligations to ensure lasting stability.
Officials emphasized that the concerns of the international community should be taken into account, particularly regarding maritime security and energy transport routes.
Focus on Strait of Hormuz stability
The Chinese Foreign Ministry specifically highlighted the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors for oil and energy supplies.
Beijing said that issues related to shipping in the region must be handled properly to avoid further disruption to global trade and energy markets.
Background of the agreement
Earlier, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly signed the memorandum electronically, aiming to formally end the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The agreement is also expected to facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has faced disruptions due to regional tensions.
According to reports, the memorandum—referred to as the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding”—was facilitated through mediation efforts led by Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the agreement had entered into force with immediate effect following endorsement by both sides.
