The Balochistan government has imposed Section 144 across the province during Muharram-ul-Haram to maintain law and order.
The decision was taken in view of security concerns and to ensure the peaceful conduct of processions and religious gatherings.
The Balochistan Home Department in Quetta has issued a formal notification enforcing Section 144 from 1st to 10th Muharram. According to the notification, the decision was made on the recommendations of the Central Police Office Balochistan and in light of the prevailing security situation to prevent any untoward incident.
The notification stated that the publication and dissemination of provocative, sectarian and hate material will be strictly prohibited during Muharram. Restrictions have also been imposed on the circulation of content on social media and other digital platforms that may disturb public order.
The display and carrying of weapons in public places will remain prohibited. Law enforcement agencies will, however, be exempt from the restriction.
A ban has also been imposed on pillion riding in Quetta district. Unauthorised persons will not be allowed to stand on rooftops, balconies or elevated locations situated along procession routes.
