Meta has unveiled a new artificial intelligence-powered search experience on Facebook, introducing an “AI Mode” that allows users to receive direct answers generated from public content shared across the social media platform.
The feature, announced on Monday, is designed to change how people search for information on Facebook by using Meta’s AI assistant to summarize discussions from public posts, Groups, and Reels.
Instead of browsing through traditional search results, users can ask questions in natural language and receive AI-generated responses based on conversations taking place across Facebook.
How Facebook’s AI mode works
According to Meta, AI Mode gathers information from public content available on Facebook and presents users with a summarized answer.
The launch follows Meta’s recent introduction of Forum, a Reddit-style application that includes an AI-powered “Ask” feature. The tool enables users to submit questions and receive answers generated from discussions occurring within Facebook Groups.
The company believes the new search experience will make finding information faster and more intuitive for users.
Concerns over accuracy
While the feature offers convenience, it also raises questions about the reliability of AI-generated responses.
Because answers are compiled from public posts and user discussions rather than verified sources, experts have warned that outdated, inaccurate, or misleading information could potentially be included in the results.
Similar concerns have previously been raised about AI-powered search features introduced by other technology companies.
New AI editing tools for users
Alongside AI Mode, Meta has launched several new content creation tools on Facebook.
Users can now access AI-powered photo presets that allow them to virtually change outfits, hairstyles, and accessories.
Sports fans, for example, can use the “Wear It” feature to digitally try on jerseys of their favorite teams through Facebook Stories.
The company has also introduced new video editing options, including collage cutouts and transition effects for video montages.
The latest additions build on a series of AI features Meta has introduced in recent months.
Earlier this year, Facebook rolled out animated profile pictures that transform still images into short animations. The platform also launched AI tools for Facebook Marketplace that can automatically respond to buyer inquiries on behalf of sellers.
More recently, Meta introduced an AI assistant for content creators, offering personalized recommendations such as optimal posting times and audience insights based on content performance.
The rapid expansion of AI features highlights Meta’s broader strategy to increase user engagement and make Facebook more useful for everyday tasks.
The company is also exploring new revenue streams through subscription services across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. These plans offer additional features and could eventually include premium AI-powered tools.
As competition in the AI sector intensifies, Meta appears to be positioning artificial intelligence at the center of the Facebook experience.
