Bangladesh have defeated Australia by five wickets in Dhaka to secure their first-ever ODI series victory over the side in the 50-over format.
Chasing a revised target of 192 under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method in 41 overs, the hosts reached the total with 36 balls remaining in a rain-affected second ODI.
Australia were restricted to 187 for 8 in 42 overs after early collapses, despite a recovery led by Marnus Labuschagne, who made 55 not out, and Xavier Bartlett, who scored 52.
Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed took three wickets each as Australia lost three wickets without scoring at the start of their innings.
Bangladesh’s chase was anchored by key partnerships, including contributions from Najmul Hossain Shanto, Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 40, guiding Bangladesh to 195 for 5 and sealing a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Australia suffered a second successive ODI series defeat, having earlier lost to Pakistan, with a depleted squad missing several senior players.
The result extended Bangladesh’s strong home record, marking a fifth consecutive ODI series win on home soil.
Najmul Hossain Shanto has termed the win as a proud moment, crediting the team’s resilience and preparation in recent months.
Australia captain Josh Inglis acknowledged the early collapse and late recovery, but said the total remained below par.
