ISLAMABAD (DI NEWS) : The Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad marked the 73rd International Everest Day with a ceremony celebrating mountaineering excellence, adventure tourism, and growing Pakistan–Nepal relations under the theme “Sagarmatha, the Highest Peak of the World: Identity and Pride of Nepal.”The event brought together diplomats, government officials, tourism experts, and mountaineering figures, including Everest summiteers from Pakistan. Nepal’s Ambassador Rita Dhital highlighted the historic 1953 first ascent of Mount Everest and noted increased climbing activity in the 2026 spring season, including participation from Pakistani climbers.Speakers, including Pakistan’s tourism officials and the Alpine Club of Pakistan, emphasized strengthening cooperation in adventure tourism, mountain safety, and environmental conservation.
A special segment honored Pakistani Everest climbers, including Nazir Sabir, Col Abdul Jabbar Bhatti, Saad Munawar, and Salman Ateeque, while young climber Selena Khawaja also attended, reflecting growing youth and women participation in mountaineering.
The ceremony concluded with a shared commitment to deeper bilateral cooperation and protection of mountain ecosystems.
