The United Nations has warned the world of a grave and possible threat of nuclear terrorism emerging from Afghanistan under the Taliban regime.
According to the report, the Afghan Taliban regime has provided shelter to terrorist organisations from across the world in order to maintain its oppressive rule. The report stated that these international militant groups operating under the umbrella of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan have become a major threat to global security.
The United Nations warned that 133 pellets containing stolen uranium dioxide from Tajikistan could fall into the hands of the banned al Qaeda network in Afghanistan.
Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre said the threat of nuclear terrorism is greater today than ever before.
The report added that al Qaeda has repeatedly expressed intentions of carrying out nuclear terrorism, while radioactive material has been smuggled or stolen in several incidents.
Experts said the United Nations, the United States, Pakistan, and European and Central Asian countries have repeatedly declared terrorism emerging from Afghanistan a serious threat.
According to experts, terrorists in Afghanistan, equipped with modern technology and foreign fighters, are creating a genuine risk of nuclear terrorism.
