Pakistan has reaffirmed support for the resolution of the Iran’s nuclear issue through peaceful means.
It was expressed by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Asim Iftikhar Ahmad during Security Council briefing on the 1737 Committee (Iran).
The ambassador emphasised that diplomacy and dialogue should be the guiding principles for achieving a negotiated settlement of all contentious issues in accordance with the rights, obligations and responsibilities of the parties concerned.
“Only an objective, fair and rules-based discussions can advance that objective,” he added.
Asim called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, and urged all parties to show maximum restraint, avoid further escalation, institute a permanent ceasefire, and resume dialogue.
Pakistan a day ago called for de-escalation in the Middle East, while expressing solidarity with the Gulf countries.
Asim said this in a statement, at the UN Security Council meeting, backing the draft resolutions introduced by Bahrain and the Russian Federation under agenda item “Situation in the Middle East”.
“The consequences of the conflict that we are witnessing right now are clear – everyone is impacted. This is a conflict that should never have happened. The conflict and its disastrous fallouts are no more isolated – the regional and global dimensions are obvious.
